76 beds with linen, curtaining and comic art, to be handed over by Mr Ndaba Mandela & Mrs Nozuko Yokwana , Chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Council at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Ward.

Come 18 July….All roads to Qunu.  On 18 July, the Nelson Mandela Museum in Qunu will be home to many international and national celebrities, dirtying their hounds, reaching out to the needy, following in the footprints of Nelson Mandela. The enthusiastic young lion Ndaba Mandela , a champion of the Africa Rising project, with a big heart just like his grandfather will be handing over 76 beds and linen at Nelson Mandela Children’s ward, and a series of other community beneficiation projects will be also be implemented on the day.

These programs will be followed by a formal program where Chairman of Africa Rising Ndaba Mandela and Mrs Yokwana, a Nelson Mandela Scholar and Chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Museum will share the stage, highlighting targeted objectives leading to 2018, and thereafter an open concert featuring well known artists such as Nathi, Vusi Nova, Nancy G, etc. International Artists include Zandae from Disney, Nico & Vinez etc.

The Nelson Mandela Museum and Africa Rising have embarked on a four year Sustainable Rural Development Project to 2018, the birth date of Nelson Mandela. The project is the first of its kind and is structured in a way that will bring influx of resources to Qunu, recognising its value and tourism potential, and as a springboard for development of the area, with possibly unprecedented economic benefits to the broader Eastern Cape Province and South Africa as a whole.

Africa Rising is a nongovernmental organisation established in 2009 by Ndaba and Kweku Mandela. Africa Rising is an institution committed to publicizing positive image of Africa to the world through various media platforms like publications, films, and social interaction in order to change the mindset of young Africans.

Mandela day events will start on 17 July 2015 with the handing over of equipment at the Nelson Mandela Academic hospital Children’s ward in Mthatha, which will continue to the next day18 July 2015 along with various other activities that will begin with a 6,7km Fun Walk crisscrossing villages of Qunu held in Qunu..

On the 17th of July 2015, the Honourable Minister of the department of Arts & Culture will deliver a lecture, which forms part of a series of lectures to be held countrywide; the theme is “South Africa of Nelson Mandela’s dreams and the memorialisation of our heritage”.


Mandela day activities scheduled for the 18th of July will also feature a number of sport activities like Intonga, Boxing, Soccer, Tennis, and Netball at the Nelson Mandela Youth and Heritage centres Sports Fields by DSRAC a long-time partner of Nelson Mandela Museum in sports development.
