The Nelson Mandela Museum hosted educators and Learners at the Nelson Mandela Youth and Heritage Centre in Qunu, Mthatha. The Winter School camp program resumed on the 05th July and will end on the 10th of July 2011.
The notion behind the establishment of the winter school camp programme is inspired by the youth of 1976 who reflected on their situation and later survived all obstacles. To be on par with the 1976 generation, the 2011 Winter School Camp Programme slogan is ‘Embracing Open Minds’.
The winter school camp programme attracts school going youth and educators from all nine provinces of South Africa and seven district municipalities of the Eastern Cape.
Manager of the Nelson Mandela Museum’s Education and Outreach Programs Phumeza Mandela said: “We foresee education as a corner stone to learner development in order to meet country’s need. We also have an obligation to educate, inform, entertain, and to capacitate Learners.
In achieving the mandate bestowed to us, we pledge to utilise our unique resources and become more responsive to the needs of the learners and society. As an Institution we augment the curriculum by exposing learners and the society to the historical exhibitions at our disposal”.
Endorsing Phumeza Mandela’s sentiments senior manager Noel Solani Says, “the Nelson Mandela Museum through its winter school camp programmes plays an important role in shaping the future of the learners and educator excellence. Our programmes involve learners and educators from all nine provinces of South Africa and seven district municipalities of the Eastern Cape.
We also pledge to encourage peace, democracy, and transparency at schools, in government, and in communities: preaching the ideals of Nelson Mandela.
It is through Nelson Mandela’s inspiration that we see ourselves as a Learner Friendly Institution”.
