Nelson Mandela Museum: Mthatha - Qunu - Mvezo

Tour Information

The Nelson Mandela Museum tour begins at the Bhunga building where you will find Nelson Mandela's "Long Walk to Freedom" - in his own words exhibition, and a collection of gifts he received from people and governments throughout the world.

Not far from the Bhunga building is the Qunu site where we will visit his childhood home, the church where he was baptized and received the name "Nelson", the sliding rock in which he played as young boy and the rivers and fields where he enjoyed herding his father's cattle and sheep.

The tour then proceeds to the spiritual place of Mvezo, the birthplace, where his umbilical cord is buried. We also visit an open-air museum where you come face to face with Madiba's humble beginnings. It is an inspirational setting with a superb view of the Mbashe river dividing Madiba's home and President Thabo Mbeki's home.
