About the Michigan State University Museum

The Michigan State University Museum (www.museum.msu.edu) was established in 1857 and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. In 2001, the MSU Museum became the first museum in the state of Michigan to receive Smithsonian Affiliate status from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the world’s largest museum and research campus.

The Michigan State University seeks, in the spirit of its land-grant university parent, to use its resources to generate awareness and understanding of local and global issues related to natural and cultural diversity and to create meaningful, enduring experiences to address those issues.
