Shared Values and Goals

Mr. Mandela and Mrs. Parks

Mr. Nelson Mandela and Mrs. Rosa Parks greatly admired each other. They met in Detroit in 1990 after his release from prison.

The themes in the exhibition are derived from letters that children wrote to Mr. Mandela and Mrs. Parks and from speeches that they gave.

These themes provide global lessons for both children and adults around the world.

• Courage and Hope

• Struggle for Freedom

• The Power of Knowledge and Education

• Faith and Spirituality

• Pathways to and the Price of Freedom
