Nelson Mandela Museum to host a World Museum Summit

This year marks twenty years of existence of the Nelson Mandela Museum. The museum will host different programmes and activities in different provinces to celebrate its milestone and to recommit itself in preserving the legacy and values Nelson Mandela stood for.

In celebrating its 20th anniversary, the museum will host a World Museum Summit on the 10th and 11th of February at Hotel Savoy in Mthatha. The summit will look at different themes that include the following:

• Museums and the official narratives

• Contradictions and romantic narratives

• Internationalising the national

• Conflicts and memory

• Post-colonial legacy versus democratic legacy

• Archives, memory and forms of remembrance

The museum has invited South African Museum representatives from other legacy museum projects and international museums The summit will be embraced by the following speakers:

The summit will take place at Savoy Hotel, Mthatha next to Mthatha General Hospital.
